A fresh stack of card wallets.

Doesn’t the group just look so nice? I’m also loving the different colors of cowgirl snaps I used on the wallets. It’s so nice to have options now, instead of just the plain pearl and silver for everything.

Just FYI: I’m listing these wallets in my Etsy shop, in case one strikes your fancy.

Introducing the Everyday Wallet — the newest addition to Anodyne Design!

If you have been following the blog, you know I have been working on this design for awhile. It feels great to have settled on a final version! This new wallet folds shut and stays shut with a pretty little snap. Inside, you’ll find three pockets for credit cards, cash, and anything else. You will also find a zippered pocket to hold change and other loose items. Even with all that, the wallet is pretty thin and can easily fit into a pocket or small bag.

This is definitely a step up from the card wallets I usually make. And for me, it finally means that my card wallet can really be just for my business cards, and everything else I keep in my wallet can now be neatly organized with room to spare in the Everyday Wallet. Of course, if you don’t already have a card wallet, there is space in the Everyday Wallet for your business cards, too. I hope you will love this new design as much as I do!

I used yesterday productively and created this prototype for a new wallet. It’s definitely fancier than my usual card wallets, with more places to keep things and even a zippered pocket for little things. I’ve still got a few things to iron out, but this is definitely a design that will be finding its way into the shop soon. I love this slim little wallet (and I love the little bird print I used)! SciFi Man has been asking me for a card wallet to keep in his front pocket, but I think this design may meet his needs even better.

We had our second ice storm in as many weeks today, and it looks like it’s going to continue into tomorrow. It was bad enough that the university was closed and I got to spend the day at home, instead of at work. I planned ahead this time and went grocery shopping yesterday, so SciFi Man and I were able to watch a House episode we hadn’t seen with and warm ourselves up with beef stew from the crock pot and biscuits.

I also finished up a bunch of card wallets I’ve been working on through the week and listed them in the shop. I’ll try to do a few more tonight and get them listed tomorrow. I’ve got some pretty cranberry red ones coming up next that I think are going to be lovely. One of the wallets I posted today is a bit more environmentally friendly that my other wallets have been. It includes a denim lining made from recycled jeans. The jeans were still in great condition, and I hated to see them go to waste, so they went to wallets instead. I think it makes the wallet a bit more “heavy duty,” too.

If you’ve read many of the recent posts on this blog, you know I’m interested in doing what I can to have a smaller impact on the environment, so the idea of recycling clothing into something new appeals to me. But what do you think of the idea? Would you buy a new product made from recycled fabric?

Ok, I’ve also been drinking wine. It only helps the sewing process! The wine is from an excellent local winery, Pheasant Hollow. If you’re in the area, I suggest you drop by and pick up a bottle of the Pink Lace. It’s wonderfully sweet. Of course, if sweet isn’t your thing, they make many other equally enjoyable wines.

Back to the sewing bit, I’m slowly working on adding new card wallets to my Etsy shop. I just added the one in the photo at left, so if you’d like to own a little piece of Anodyne Design blog history, you can pick it up. I’ve also been tossing around an idea for a new, cooler wristlet for the past few days. I’ll try to make one up over the weekend and see what you all think of it.

With the official start of the holiday shopping season only days away, I’ve been hard at work making up new card wallets and wristlets for the shop. I’ve been working out a new design for the wristlets, and making coordinated wristlet/wallet sets. I’ve got a custom laptop bag I’m working on for a friend, too. All this creating has been fun, but has certainly cut into my blogging, and I’m sorry I disappeared for a few days.

How will you do your holiday shopping? Do you brave the crowds on Black Friday? Do you wait until the last minute to do your shopping? Or will you eschew crowded stores altogether and do your shopping online? I know Etsy will be a great place to do some shopping for handmade gifts. What other unique online shops will you be visiting? (Really, I want to know so I can check them out.)

I normally don’t go out on Black Friday (although I do love bargains!). I usually take my time finding gifts and do a bit of online and offline shopping. As part of family tradition, my father and I wait until Christmas Eve to go out and finish our shopping. It’s crazy, but it’s our thing, and it lets us have some quality father daughter time during the holidays. I know we both look forward to it. After our day of last minute shopping, we finish up with a nice dinner out. My mom, brother, and SciFi Man have been getting a little jealous of our ritual lately, and have been inviting themselves to after-shopping dinner. I can’t really blame them, though. This year, I am planning to go out to JoAnn Fabrics (the best fabric game in my town) on Friday. There’s going to be some good deals. Since I’m planning to make a lot of the gifts I give this year, it would be silly not to try to find a bargain. And after I make the long drive home in December, I know my Dad and I will be waiting until the last minute to finish our shopping together.

I found Swap-Bot. Swap-Bot is a site that makes it easy to set up swaps for all sorts of things–it matches participants for you, helps you track when items are sent and received, lets you share photos of the things that have been swapped, and most importantly, allows swappers rate each other, so that you can have some assurance that you aren’t trading with an unsavory swapper. There’s still risk involved, but it’s comforting to see that someone has managed to send their swaps out and that the recipients have been pleased with them.

Right now, I’m involved in a crock pot recipe swap (mmm!), a CD swap, a lip balm swap, and a “look what I made” swap. I’ve been making up some pretty fabric wallets for that last swap, using a tutorial from that*darn*kat. These wallets are a bit fancier than my simple card wallets. I’m quite pleased with how they turned out, and I may have to make one for myself. If you’re looking for a way to trade crafty goodness with others, I recommend you check out Swap-Bot. I haven’t been disappointed yet. (Oh, and of course, it’s free to use.)

Do you swap or trade? If not through swap-bot, then how?

Living in a small town, my fabric options are limited to the local Jo-Ann’s, a lovely but pricey quilt shop, and a Hobby Lobby with a small fabric section. I managed to find some fun new fabrics that I think will make cute card wallets and some wool for a coat I’m going to start working on for winter (I’m going to try to make the pink one, but in gray). I’m still searching for some insulated-type batting to make oven mitts with, though. I also got a few card wallets done this past weekend. Two of them went to new homes with friends in St. Louis, and the rest should be going into the shop sometime today.
