The Urban Art Co-op

Urban Art Co-opThe Urban Art Co-op is a shop in Collinsville, Illinois that features work by local Illinois artists of both the “traditional-painted-on-canvas” sort and the more crafty, handmade bags and furniture sort. The shop also has an event space and hosts regular art-focused events, such as Wine and Watercolor, which sounds like a fabulous way to spend an evening. If I lived closer to Collinsville, I would definitely be signed up for that.

Ali McCarthy, who runs Urban Art, was kind enough to send me a few photos of my handmade items in her shop. Currently, you can find Anodyne Design wristlets and card wallets, fabric covered journals, keychain pouches, gift tags, and magnets in the shop. Oh, and of course, Little Hootie Owls.

If you are near Collinsville, which is right by St. Louis, you should really stop in and check Urban Art out. There’s lots more to see there than just what’s in these pictures, and the frequent classes they offer sound very cool. You can find out more about Urban Art on their blog or Facebook.

Upcycling for Re-

Upcycled Wristlets

This weekend I made up a few new bags to take over to Re-, as their supply of Anodyne Design wristlets was running dangerously low (hooray!). It’s been awhile since I’ve made wristlets from recycled fabrics, and I forgot how much I love transforming the unloved into the completely cute. I didn’t have a lot of time, but I did get three bags finished. Another one from the same white sweater I used before, and two from men’s dress shirts and twill pants. Instead of buttons, I accented each of these bags with old brooches I found at Goodwill. I don’t know if they’re technically “vintage,” but they are pretty and add a nice touch to the bags. And better they pretty up bags than languish behind a jewelry counter.

Wristlet for Re-

If you like these wristlets, you can find them at Re-, a cool shop full of all sorts of re-cycled, re-used, and re-purposed goodness, in the Peoria Metro Centre.

Find Anodyne Design at Re-

reAnodyne Design Eco Wristlets and Card Wallets can now be found at re-, in the Peoria Metro Center. re- specializes in items made from re-cycled, re-purposed, or re-claimed materials. Anodyne Design products appearing there are made from recycled linens and clothing, turning unwanted and unloved fabrics into new, ready-to-love accessories.

re- has an amazing variety of sustainable products in stock, ranging from organic children’s items to re-purposed glass bottles, and reclaimed wood from wine barrels turned into platters and a lazy susan (which I oh-so-desperately want!). I picked up a special housewarming gift for my brother when I was there, and I know he’s going to love it. re- also offers a variety of classes geared towards creating something new out of something old, like old sweaters into pretty brooches and old tin cans into jewelry.  Definitely stop by and check out this unique shop if you’re in town!

Here’s a peek at some of the Anodyne Design wristlets and wallets you’ll find at re-:

Now Appearing At…

S’more Couture

Starting this week, there are two new places you can find Anodyne Design. First, Anodyne Design wristlets, wallets, and journal covers are now available at S’more Couture in Alta, Illinois. This is a charming little boutique filled with fabulous creations from local artists and fancy things (like perfume and soap) from France. Definitely a stylish little shop in central Illinois. If you decide to stop by, you can’t miss it. It’s the pink house.

Second, Anodyne Design will be appearing at the Peoria RiverFront Market every Saturday for the season, June 6th (this weekend!) to September 26th. Be sure to stop by and say hello! SciFi Man and I went to the RiverFront Market almost every week last summer to buy most of our produce. Local veggies (and pasta, and cheese, and, and, and…) are so fresh and tasty. This is definitely a Market you’ll want to visit regularly throughout the summer.

I better get back to sewing so I can be ready for this weekend!
