I mentioned earlier that I have a long sewing to do list. I’m chipping away at it, but there’s still more to do. That said, I was talking with a knitter friend tonight about dreaming about all the projects we want to make for ourselves. She’s got this gorgeous sweater she wishes she had time to knit. It got me to thinking about my list of personal projects, which always seems to be on hold until I finish that other to do list. Here are some of the things that I want to make for myself:
Angry Chicken blogged about this cute shirt she made some time ago. She was right, the pattern makes the shirt look ugly, but her version sure looks cute. I have the fabric and I have the pattern, and they are just waiting for the day I sit down and put them together. And speaking of fabric and patterns, I also have the fabric and patterns for another shirt and a pair of pajama pants. They also sit on their shelves and tease me.
Also on my personal to do list, are Amy Butler’s Weekender Bag and Gumdrop Pillows. The pillow are waiting until I move, so that I can be sure they coordinate with our new home. I don’t have such a good excuse for the bag. I want a beautiful weekender bag like the one I saw on craftoholic. And there’s the beautiful circle skirt from the Quilts and More Winter 2007 issue (which apparently has a weak presence online and no online references to this specific skirt.) Trust me, it’s a beautiful skirt.
My spring break is next week. Maybe I can make a bigger dent in my to do list and make something for myself. What a novel idea! What about you?–I know many of you have busy lives and if you have an Etsy shop, you probably spend a lot of your time making wonderful things for others. Do you ever find your personal to do list always gets put last? How do you take a little time out to make something for yourself?
I just found your site the other day and I’m in love with the things that you make.
When it comes to getting things made for me I had a really hard time because life always gets in the way. That’s why I just started to blog – much in the same vein of your post – it gave me something to be accountable to, a place to exclaim ‘this is what I’m going to make!’
Somehow you just find a little time here and there to get it done when you have interested people to show it to. I’m sure you will get some things off your to-do list once you’re on spring break.
wow sounds like you’re going to be busy!
Thanks, Kerri! I’ll be sure to share any progress I do make on my projects. 🙂
I have the same problem…I am in medical school and only find time to sew when I am on breaks – and that’s even hard because most breaks I am studying! So, yeah, usually my sewing list gets pushed to the back burner.
You have beautiful things though, keep your stuff coming!
Thanks for taking a wander over to my blog… I know how you feel about to do lists! Yours sounds really enjoyable though!
ahh plans and good intentions. I feel like the little time I have to make is spent creating things that wind up in other people’s homes and not my own.
I definitely find that my creative time gets eaten up with etsy projects…I can’t remember the last time I made something just for ME. I keep thinking about getting a sewing machine and picking that back up (used to do a lot with my grandmother)…but I’d need to find TIME for that!
Ahh, I feel you! My list is a mile long… Heck, my list of things I want to make for others is long too, there’s just not enough time in the world! I look forward to seeing your list come to fruition 😉 I want to make that weekender bag too, and I showed my husband those gumdrop pillows a couple weeks ago and he agreed that they’re great!!
